Initial, unconfirmed reports were that cyanide was found on a woman at the Bellmore Post Office, which prompted authorities to call in the Nassau County Hazardous Materials unit and to shut down Merrick Road in front of the mail facility.

A Rockville Centre code enforcement officer inspected the partially collapsed scaffold at the Merrick Avenue construction site Wednesday afternoon with Harry Weed from the Department of Public Works and Dan Casella from the Rockville Centre Building Department.
