Nassau County has one of the nation’s highest rates of breast cancer, and more than 1,200 women in the county were diagnosed with the disease from 2004 to 2008, according to the State Department of Health’s New York State Cancer Registry.

All South Side Middle School students attended the “Challenge to Choose Wisely” assembly on Sept. 7. The purpose of the presentation, in its second year, is to stress the importance of good decision making as well as the dangers of risky behavior.
