Each year, the Society for Science & the Public awards Research Report and Initiative badges to recognize excellence in students’ submissions to the Intel Science Talent Search. Eleven of the 14 student researchers at Kennedy High School in Bellmore who submitted Intel entries in the 2015 competition received badges.

Last week, President Obama and Governor Cuomo gave their annual addresses on the nation and state, and both focused a good portion of their speeches on education. While both placed a heavy emphasis on charter schools, they were far apart on other issues.

To understand how much W.T. Clarke senior Pavithran Ravindran enjoys science research, consider how he spent last summer. The 17-year-old’s vacation schedule closely resembled that of a full-time worker, as he boarded a 7 a.m. train each weekday morning, headed for Long Island University in Brooklyn, where he conducted research.

Tens of thousands of people gathered at Jones Beach early Sunday morning for the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, which raised more than $3 million for research, information and services. There was a sea of pink along the boardwalk, as people came out in support of finding a cure for a disease that affects one in every eight women.
