There will likely be one less sixth grade classroom teacher at Chatterton School come the fall. Merrick Superintendent Dominick Palma said this is due to declining student enrollment. He described a budget for next school year that would “continue to maintain a high quality education for the children” and would be cost-neutral to Merrick property taxpayers after they receive a rebate check from the state.

Merrick residents passed the Merrick Library’s budget for 2014-15. The budget includes more funding for materials and services. It marginally decreases funding for building maintenance.
