Three local high school seniors were selected to participate in the New York State School Music Association’s All-State ensembles in December.

North High School student Daniel Sansky and South High School student Allyce Yang will perform at the 2015 NYSSMA Winter Conference in Rochester from Dec. 3-6. North High School senior Morgan Foster was chosen as an alternate.

Sansky, a bass clarinetist, was chosen for the wind ensemble. He has participated in All-County groups several times, as well as the District Music Festival and Community Band. He is a member of the Tri-M Music, National, Science, Math and Languages Other Than English honor societies. He also plays varsity volleyball.

Yang was accepted into the string orchestra as a violinist. She served as an alternate for the orchestra last year. She has participated in four All-County concerts and Long Island String Festival Association concerts. Yang was featured in the District Music Festival for three years and performed with the South Shore Symphony as its principal violist. She was also recently named a National Merit semifinalist.

Foster plays the French horn and has a history of All-County and District Music Festival performances. Like Sansky, she is a member of the Tri-M Music, National, Science, Math and Languages Other Than English honor societies. She is also a member of the cross-country team.

“These students are to be congratulated for their talent and hard work,” said Adam Erdos, the district’s coordinator of fine and performing arts. “Selection to All-State groups, either as a member or as an alternate, is one of the greatest honors that a high school musician can achieve, and is a testament to the effort, dedication, and hours of practice that these students, and their teachers, consistently make to attain it.”
