“There has been an amazing community response,” she said. “I just wanted to bring awareness and collect for this family that is so desperately in need.”

Natalie Molloy, the Bellmore Moms group administrator, said she has been working with Ciminera and other residents to spread information about this campaign. She noted that Ciminera has been instrumental in keeping the community updated about what the family needs.

Initially, Ciminera said, the Zivs needed clothing and toys for Omri, in addition to other household supplies. At press time on Tuesday, she said, the family most needed packaging materials, storage bins and containers, blankets, pillows, sleeping bags and gift cards.

Molloy was impressed by how quickly the Cimineras’ house was “overflowing with love” in the form of donations for the Zivs. She said there has been an outpouring of community support for the family, who some of the people who have responded don’t even know.

“Nothing in this life can be done by one person,” she said. “So, through tragedy, a community stepped up and did the right thing, and Bellmore should be proud. That’s what [the Bellmore Moms group] is all about: knowing what is happening within your community to bring us all closer together and make our community stronger and a great place to raise a family.”

The current drop-off spot for donations is Salon Nouveau, at 2603 Merrick Road. Molloy contacted Crystal Philipou of the salon, who volunteered the business to house donations and said the family could come to the shop for free haircuts and blowouts.

Other local businesses are involved with the effort. Puppy Love Pet Care by Jane has offered her services for the Ziv family dog, Molloy said, and Mutts & Butts has donated items for the pet. And Nancy Moniodes, owner of Nancy the Cupcake Lady on Bedford Ave., has offered the family her sweet treats for Thanksgiving.

Merrick merchants have also contributed to the cause. Left Coast Grill, of Merrick, has offered the family meals and is a drop-off location for donations in Merrick. And Any Garment $1.99-Pressed Cleaners owners have offered to clean any clothing items that sustained smoke damage for free.
