A 30-foot boat caught fire on July 27 in Oceanside, bringing in six fire departments to deal with the blaze.

The call was put in at approximately 2:30 p.m. for the boat, which was located behind a house on the southern end of Illona Lane in Oceanside. Island Park, East Rockaway, Long Beach, Freeport and Baldwin fire departments also responded to the blaze with about 100 fire fighters.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. But the fire on the boat spread to the owner's bulkhead, destroying it along with all the lawn furniture. The boat broke away from the dock and drifted, causing damage to a neighbor's bulkhead as well, before it was brought under control. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

At least three people were taken to local hospitals for smoke inhalation. There were no serious injuries.
