Clarke's run sparked by offense

Clarke's Hope Quinonez, center, has a team-leading six goals on the season after a hat trick in a 5-0 win over North Shore on Sept. 27.

Senior co-captains Stephanie Kaufman and Nicole Wahlig and classmate Alyssa Pekunka have all played varsity since the eighth grade and are joined on the back line by sophomore Madeline Anderson and freshman Kayla Dieppa. Anderson’s developed into a secret weapon of sorts in transition, where she’s been able to get ahead of the pack and find her way into the offensive zone, often firing off several shots per game. She assisted on one of Wahlig’s goals last Saturday.

The experience of the team as a whole, choc full of seniors, juniors and even underclass players already with multiple years of experience, continues to be a strength as the Lady Rams jumped from Conference A-V all the way up to the top conference in Class A. “These girls belong in the conference,” Wachsberger said. “Sometimes they get a little nervous with the names on [other teams] jerseys, but they’re good.

“Now we have players that have been around for so long, and we couldn’t be in a better situation.”
