Councils offer hope for economic vitality

Our point isn’t that we think the regional councils should have Robert Moses-like dictatorial authority. Nor do we think local home-rule jurisdictions should be ignored. But we expect battles on this turf, and the governor must figure out how they can be won by the people, not the powerful.

The time for battles will come. Right now it’s time to laud the creation of these regional councils and to support their efforts to help Long Island become the engine of high-level job growth and sustainable development we all know it can and should be.
