Hurricane Sandy destroyed a house in Baldwin Harbor. County Executive Edward Mangano has announced a “property-tax stabilization” plan that should reduce taxes on properties that Hurricane Sandy damaged and hold property taxes level for others.

Denenberg blamed a county system that froze property assessments at their pre-Hurricane Sandy values and then granted reductions to the majority of residents who filed grievances of their assessments for creating an inaccurate picture of property values and shifting a greater tax burden onto residents who never filed grievances.
