Winter storm

Crews tackling snowfall in Valley Stream

Plows are out in full force in Valley Stream and will continue to clear the roads as this latest winter storm continues to drop snow across the region.

Mayor Ed Fare said that trucks were out early in the morning to drop sand and salt on the roads before the first flakes fell, which keeps the streets from icing up right away. Between noon and 2:30, Fare said crews focused on the roads around all the schools in the village, so children could be picked up safely.

“We wanted the plows out of there before the parents started showing up,” Fare said.

He said that plowing of all streets would continue throughout the night. The village maintains about 90 miles of roads.

The forecast is calling for about 10 inches of snow by Wednesday morning. “If the storm turns, we could get less,” Fare said. “If the storm sticks, we could get more."
