Officials said the additional diversity training will be a more intense version of the program administered to all Hempstead Town employees. The program includes a class conducted by a professional workplace service provider.

Bayley said she applauds the immediate attention that town officials have given the incident, but added that she believes more needs to be done. She said all town employees should receive intensive training, and that officials should show they have zero tolerance for hateful actions.

“All of the other employees who stood by and watched the perpetrator post that racist picture should be reprimanded also,” she said, “especially anyone who may have been in a place of authority.”

It was unclear whether Howard would continue to work at the Levittown facility, because Hempstead Town officials do not comment on personnel matters.
