Driver attacked on bus in Franklin Square

According to the 4th Squad, a woman who was operating a Nassau Inter-County Express bus on the N6 line was attacked in Franklin Square on Feb. 24.

Police said that the NICE bus driver, who is 38, was heading westbound on Hempstead Turnpike at 3:30 p.m. Ivey Dixon, 27, of Hempstead, became upset that the driver did not stop the bus for her at an unscheduled stop. As the bus approached New Hyde Park Road, Dixon began to strike the driver in the head with her hands. As the bus came to a stop, Dixon exited the bus, along with a young girl. She was seen fleeing on foot eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her minor injuries.

“NICE is shocked by the violent behavior directed at our bus operator,” said a spokesman for NICE bus service in a statement. “NICE drivers do an excellent job for the riding public, often under challenging conditions. We hope for the speedy recovery of the driver."

Hempstead Police located Dixon on Feb. 26 and assisted detectives with her arrest. She is charged with second-degree assault and was arraigned on Feb. 27 at First District Court, in Hempstead.
