EMFD and Islanders spread holiday cheer at NUMC

The season of giving

The East Meadow Fire Department volunteers and New York Islanders dropped by Nassau University Medical Center to distribute presents to sick children last week.

“This was our 15th annual Jimmy Martino Memorial Toy Drive visit to Nassau University Medical Center,” said EMFD volunteer, Jim Darcey. Dressed as Santa and elves, the volunteers delivered toys to each child admitted to the pediatric unit.

The Islanders have also been distributing toys to local hospitals for more than ten years and this year, goalie Al Montoya, and forwards Matt Martin and Kyle Okposo visited the pediatric and burn units at NUMC.

“Obviously there are those that are less fortunate than us and it’s nice to be able to give back,” said Martin.

“You see the pain that some of these kids are in and it really makes you think twice,” added Okposo. “It makes you appreciate everything that you have.”
