Here is a roundup of several important meetings this week:

NY Rising forum

Sandy Victims Fighting FEMA will hold a meeting on Monday at the Unitarian Congregation, 228 S. Ocean Ave., Freeport at 7 p.m. for an open forum. Jon Kaiman, the head of New York Rising (NYR) for Long Island, will be in attendance. Mr. Kaiman is expected to finally reveal the details of many aspects of the NYR program. It is expected that he will be bringing a team of knowledgeable individuals that will finally answer Sandy victims’ detailed questions regarding NY Rising. The meeting will allow for several “break-out” sessions, which will allow for in depth answers to our important questions. Founder Michele Mittleman states that she is “looking forward to many Sandy victims finally getting real answers to their very looming and pressing questions." For more information please contact the founder of “Sandy Victims Fighting FEMA”- Michele Mittleman, Esq. at (516) 532-3597, or on Facebook at “Sandy Victims fighting FEMA”, or e-mail at michelemittleman@gmail.com.

Forum on repurposing East School, possible facilities changes
Though a public forum on the matter is scheduled for Jan. 21, parents could not wait to voice their concerns about the possible closing of East School and the restructuring of the district’s elementary schools, and besieged the Board of Education and administration with almost three hours of comments at the last board meeting. Many of the complaints that have been discussed over the past two months were reiterated: Parents don’t want their children to move among different elementary schools and don’t want increases in class size. The public forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Long Beach Middle School.
