Franklin Square family expresses holiday cheer through lights and donations

For the second year in a row, Robert Destefano has installed festive lights and inflatable characters on his front lawn-this year, including his neighbor's lawn-along with collecting donations for the St. Jude's children's charity, to commemorate the holiday season.

"This year, I wanted to be extreme, over the top," he said, pointing to the varied and colorful lawn decorations. "I only did a little bit last year."

A red donation box sits at the entrance to the holiday display. "People can pay after they park, come over to look around," he said. "My mother has always had a passion for St. Jude's, and has always donated."

Destefano said he's always had a passion for Christmas. "Seeing people smile and kids happy, that makes me happy," he said.

The holiday display will be open for visitors until the new year.
