Get ready for race day

The Village of Rockville Centre is once again gearing up for the annual 5K/10K race on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The 37th annual race day starts at 9 a.m. with the 1-mile Family Fun Run, which kicks off on Front Street, near the railroad station. The 5K and 10K start at 10 a.m. on North Park Avenue. All of the roads that cross the race route will close at 8 a.m. on Saturday and reopen at noon.

Last year’s race course was different than usual because of the work being done on Maple Avenue. This year, with the work completed, the races will return to their traditional routes.

The entry fee for the Fun Run is $10 per person. The 5K is $25 and the 10K is $30. Seniors — those over 60 — pay $10 for either race.

There will be free T-shirts for the first 100 children who register for the Fun Run, and for the first 800 runners who register for the longer races. In addition to prizes for the top overall finisher, the first Rockville Centre finisher and the fastest wheelchair competitor, awards will be presented in a number of age divisions for the 5K and 10K. There will also be trophies for all children under 12 who finish the Fun Run.

As always, baby joggers, strollers, bicycles, roller skates, inline skates and pets are not allowed.

Participants can register at the Recreation Center before the race. Race-day registration will be from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at Village Hall, at 1 College Place.
