Goggin said that she does not believe that her candidacy will disrupt her work on the council.

“I’m still committed to working toward the goals that I have as a councilwoman,” she said.

If she is elected to a six-year term in November, she said she hopes to play a role in appointing a replacement to fill her vacant seat come Jan. 1. That person would have to run in a regular election next year, she said.

“I will complete the year … the person that is chosen hopefully will be qualified,” she said. “I would like to see someone who really cares about what’s going on in the city and wants the city to continue moving in the direction it has been, from protecting infrastructure to making sure that people come home, and that NY Rising funding continues.”
