“We’ve been playing really hard whether we’re ahead or behind,” he added. “We’ve been in a bunch of tight games. That’s why we set up a difficult non-league schedule. The overtime loss we had in Syosset to start the season prepared us for games down the road like Long Beach (10-7 win on April 12) and Port Washington (7-6 in OT on April 16.)”

Hurwitz completed a hat trick with the overtime game-winner against Port Washington off a pass from junior Dylan Crossan. Against Long Beach, Hurwitz and Pickett had three goals apiece and senior Kieran O’Hagan notched two goals and two assists to lead the offense. Defensively, senior Matt Pandolfi and juniors Steven DiMare and Stephen Parker are the workhorses in front of LiCalzi.

“We have a very team-oriented attitude and the chemistry is really good,” DiPietro said. “Things are going pretty well and the journey is not over.”

South Side’s last three games are on the road, including a trip to Great Neck South this Friday for a 4:30 p.m. start.
