Lady Bruins take a bow
the Baldwin girls’ basketball team captured both the Nassau County and Long Island championships last month in exciting fashion. The team was honored during the April 9 Board of Education and was given citations by Nassau County Leg. Laura Curran, right. Head coach Tom Catapano, right, introduced his team and coaching staff and thanked them for their hard work all season.

It’s been a busy year for the Lady Bruins basketball team. From months of practices and exhibition games, to the regular season and playoff run that culminated with a Long Island championship and a berth in the state tournament last month.

The team and coaching staff were honored on April 9 at the Board of Education meeting. Head coach Tom Catapano thanked the community, the parents, his assistants and his players for all their hard work. “This group was on a championship mission and it started about this time last year,” he said.

“None of this happened by accident and it’s no coincidence that they’re standing up here,” Catapano added, citing their months of preparation.

Nassau County Legislator Laura Curran (D-Baldwin) presented the team with citations and a representative from Sen. Dean Skelos’ (R-Rockville Centre) office presented a state legislative resolution about the team’s accomplishments.
