Lynbrook students wage cupcake war against hunger

Posted

Lynbrook High School students, staff and community members competed in the Culinary Arts Club’s Cupcake War to Fight Hunger. Each of the 15 contestants baked 24 cupcakes representing a springtime theme. Among the entry names were “Blissful Blossoms,” “April Showers Bring May Flowers” and “Peach and Apricot Cobbler.” The first-place prize went to senior Alekki Markou for her entry entitled “Whimsical Lemon Cupcakes.”

Contestants sold their cupcake creations to raise money for Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale, a national campaign that mobilizes Americans to help end childhood hunger by holding bake sales in their communities.

“We raised over $800 for Share Our Strength’s fight against childhood hunger,” said club advisor Lauren Reganato. “Every dollar donated connects a hungry child with ten nutritious meals, which means we provided over 8,000 meals through the cupcake war bake sale!”
