Man found in Merrick pool, pronounced dead at hospital

A 42-year-old man was rushed by ambulance on the night of July 4th from a house in Merrick to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside. He was pronounced dead at 10:37 p.m.

County police have not yet released the man’s name.

Police officers and Merrick Fire Department EMTs responded to a call on the evening of July 4 at 2421 Elinore Ave in Merrick. Family members of the 42-year-old man, who was in a swimming pool, observed that something was wrong with him and pulled him from the pool, according to Eloise Abdullah, an officer in the Police Department’s Public Information Office. The man was taken to South Nassau Hospital by a Merrick Fire Department ambulance.

Abdullah said the police are waiting for the County Medical Examiner’s report to determine the cause of death.
