Dispute over woman leads to Valley Stream shooting

Posted

A dispute over a woman was the likely cause of a shooting in Valley Stream last Sunday afternoon that left one man injured and another in jail, facing charges of attempted murder.

Police say that 36-year-old Richard Davidson, of Albemarle Road in Brooklyn, came to the victim’s place of work, a floor-cleaning company on Lois Place, shortly before 1 p.m. He saw the 43-year-old victim outside the business at 40 Lois Place, according to police, and after the two exchanged words, Davidson fired several shots. The victim ran inside the building with Davidson in pursuit, police said.

According to 5th Squad Detective Sgt. Robert Galgano, the two men were involved in a relationship with the same woman, which led to the dispute.

The victim was shot eight times, including in the legs and shoulders. He was airlifted to a local hospital, but police said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Lois Place is a dead-end street with a mix of businesses and homes off Horton Avenue, one block south of Merrick Road.

Police arrested Davidson, a New York City bus driver, in Brooklyn about four hours after the shooting. Galgano said police were led to Davidson because the victim knew him.

Davidson was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned on Nov. 22 and ordered held in Nassau County Jail.
