Weather Advisory
Ocean swimming prohibited at Jones Beach
Christina Daly/Herald
Swimming is prohibited at Jones Beach on Aug. 28 because of rip tides.

Swimming is prohibited in the Atlantic Ocean today, Aug. 28, at Jones Beach State Park and several other South Shore beaches because of rip currents caused by Hurricane Cristobal.

The storm, a Category 1 hurricane, is well off the coast of the United States and headed northeast. However, it is still affecting beaches all along the East Coast.

The West Bathhouse pool at Jones Beach remains open for swimming.
