The Oceanside Fire Department responded to a blaze at 70 New Street May 1. When firefighters arrived they found a rubbish fire in progress. They battled the fire for an hour. Nassau County Haz-mat, Bay Constables and the Fire Marshall’s office were all called to the scene. One of the workers was transported to the hospital. East Rockaway, Baldwin and Rockville Centre assisted. Oceanside Chief John Madden was in charge.
