Putting the 'fun' in fundraiser

District 13 Educational Foundation hosts pasta and games night

Food, family and fun were the focus of the Valley Stream District 13 Educational Foundation’s fundraiser last Friday night. About 150 people attended the event which raised money for the district’s four elementary schools.

It was a taste of Italy, as guest enjoyed a pasta dinner, along with bread, juice, coffee and pastries. Then, adults and children spent some time together playing board games and card games, coloring and doing some arts and crafts. Students from Our Lady of Lourdes School in Malverne served food for their community service hours.

“It was very nice,” said Bill Stris, a member of the Educational Foundation and Board of Education trustee. “We had a lot of people. In fact, we had to turn people away.”

The event was held at the James A. Dever School and was the organization’s biggest fundraising event so far this school year. Stris said money will go toward scholarships for graduating sixth-graders in June, as well as other educational needs as determined by Foundation’s board. The next big event will be a golf outing, which Stris said likely would be held next year.
