Stick Fly
Settle in for a raucous of-the-moment portrait of an affluent African-American family in Lydia R. Diamond’s drama “Stick Fly,” presented by Nassau Community College’s Department of Theatre and Dance and Africana Studies. One summer weekend on Martha’s Vineyard, the LeVay brothers bring their girlfriends home to meet their parents. Taylor, an academic, struggles to fit into the LeVay family’s upper-crust lifestyle, while Kimber — a self described WASP who works with inner city school children — fits in more easily.  The two women, however, don’t hit it off and sparks fly.  As the ladies face off over issues of race and privilege, tensions reach a boiling point and long-buried family secrets are revealed.
Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-25, 8 p.m.; Sunday, Jan. 26, 3 p.m.; also Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 29-Feb. 2. $9, $7 seniors. Nassau Community College’s Mainstage Theatre, Garden City.
