Rockville Centre's Village Attorney honored for leadership

Rockville Centre’s Village Attorney, a village resident, was honored for Leadership in Law by Long Island Business News in its Partner category.

A. Thomas Levin is a member of the Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein P.C. law firm and chairs both its Municipal Law, Land Use and Environmental Compliance and its Professional Responsibility practices. The award recognizes Levin’s qualities of experience, dedication, hard work, skill, tenacity, excellence and compassion — all resulting in a positive impact on Long Island.

  Levin represents public and private sector clients in local government law, land use regulation, and commercial litigation, and matters relating to professional responsibility, ethics and disciplinary proceedings. Levin serves as Village Attorney for eight Nassau County villages and is Special Prosecutor for the Village of North Hills. He serves, or has served, as special counsel to other municipalities and school districts, including Nassau County, the City of Long Beach, the City of Glen Cove, the Town of Hempstead, the Town of North Hempstead, the Copiague School District, Rockville Centre School District, Hempstead School District, Hewlett-Woodmere School District, Western Suffolk Board of Cooperative Education, Town of Brookhaven, Great Neck/North Shore Cable Commission and the Public Access Television Corporation.

Levin is a former president of the New York State Bar Association, the New York Conference of Bar Leaders, and the Nassau County Bar Association. He served as a trustee of the New York State Bar Foundation and is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates, a past president of the Bar Association of Nassau County Fund, Inc., and a co-founder and former vice president of the Nassau Bar Tech Center, Inc. Levin is also a trustee of, and counsel to, the Historical Society of the Courts of the State of New York. He is admitted to practice law in New York, Florida, the United States Virgin Islands, the United States Supreme Court and various other federal courts.     

In the public service field, Levin has been counsel to the Judiciary Committee of the New York State Assembly, to the Joint Legislative Committee on the State’s Economy and has been active in numerous community and charitable organizations. He is a Trustee of the Nassau Land Trust, and has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Long Island Community Foundation, the Nassau Symphony Orchestra, the Nassau County Legal Aid Society and as an Advisory Board member of the Government Law Center at Albany Law School.

Levin is also a member of the Land Use Law Center Conference Board at Pace Law School, the Advisory Council of Nassau/Suffolk Law Services, Inc. and is pro bono counsel to the RVC Conservancy. He has also been pro bono general counsel to the Day Care Council of Nassau County, Inc. and the Rosa Lee Young Childhood Center for more than 35 years, and represents many not-for-profit organizations and individuals on a pro bono basis.
