Elementary school students from the Progressive School of Long Island and Camp Avenue, Chatterton, Fayette, Levy-Lakeside, and Old Mill Road schools recently participated in a Scrabble tournament on May 27 at the Merrick Library. The Merrick Kiwanis Club runs the tournament, which is designed to foster friendly competition, vocabulary building and strategy, each spring. A few dozen students took part, going head to head to determine Merrick’s Scrabble champion.
