Students in third through fifth grades participating in the Presidential Service Awards Program at Parkway Elementary School completed a community service project entitled “Pillows for Seniors.” The pillows were given as holiday gifts to the senior citizens residing at Fulton Commons Care Center in East Meadow.

Each student in the program donated one dollar towards the purchase of pillow kits, which were bought through Oriental Trading. When the kits arrived, the students met as a group, selected their kit (pink or blue) and began to construct the pillows. As a follow-up activity, they created colorful, handmade holiday cards with personalized greetings to accompany the pillows.

The pillows were packed up in giant gift bags and a few of the cards were read aloud by the students before they were presented to Judi Sheppard, Recreation Director of Fulton Commons.
