“Eddie Hynes and Bill McGinn changed my life,” Nappi said. “I knew I needed a purpose for writing, an inspiration, and this was it. I have literally been writing nonstop ever since.”

Inspiration can strike any time, Nappi said. He remembered being at Hershey Park with his family—wife Julia and sons Nicholas and Anthony—and getting an idea for Mickey Tussler.

“I didn’t have a notebook with me, so I was writing everything down on napkins,” he said.

“Students ask me all the time, ‘What am I going to write about?’ I tell them that they might think they don’t have anything to say, but they do.”
