‘A day that will live in infamy’

East Rockaway students remember Pearl Harbor — with the help of the American Legion

The Rhame Avenue Library Media Center recently played host to a very special program. Tony Donato and Edward Corrado from the East Rockaway American Legion Hall, not only presented a wonderful book titled Pearl Harbor by Tamara L. Britton with an accompanying plaque to the Rhame Avenue School, but also shared their insight and stories about that “day that will live in infamy.”

The sixth graders were enthralled by the details and emotions of that day that took place more than seventy years ago. The students, Superintendent of Schools Roseanne Melucci, Rhame Avenue Principal Laura Guggino, teachers, and Elisa Kerin, Rhame Avenue Library Media Specialist, were all very excited to receive this special addition to the Rhame Avenue Library.

Over at Centre Avenue School, a book presentation on Pearl Harbor was held. After Donato donated there, School Librarian Petra Schoen gave a visual presentation on the topic to sixth graders.
