A gala evening for Ed. Foundation

On April 20, the Rockville Centre Education Foundation held its annual gala, this year honoring Doris Kearns Goodwin and Joan Waldman.

The evening was held at Molloy College’s new Madison Theater, returning the Education Foundation event to Rockville Centre for the first time in years. The gala, which is the foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year, raised more than $53,000 — all of which will make its way back to Rockville Centre schools through the work the foundation does.

There were 245 guests of the foundation who dined on the stage at the Madison Theater and participated in silent auctions.

The evening also honored Rockville Centre native Doris Kearns Goodwin, an author and historian whose book, “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln,” was the basis for the award-winning film “Lincoln.”

Watson School Principal Joan Waldman was honored with the Ruth Fins Award for her service to the students of the Rockville Centre School District during her years as principal.
