A global connection

Thanks to the generosity of the Rockville Centre Education Foundation and the South Side High School student government, South Side’s students can now gain international experience without ever leaving campus.

Video conferencing has allowed seniors in the school’s International Baccalaureate Theory of Knowledge course to have a joint class with another International Baccalaureate school in Monterrey, Mexico — Campus Santa Catarina de Tecnológico de Monterrey. South Side’s teachers planned a lesson using video conferencing with their counterparts in Monterrey, which resulted in the joint class. The student presentations and discussion focused on the topic of perception.  Plans are in the works for a joint class in IB Spanish next spring.
