A new reporter

Posted

As you leaf through the Herald this week, something might look a bit different. Perhaps you'll notice something unfamiliar — a byline you haven't seen before, a new line on the masthead or a new face at village hall meetings.

I would like to introduce myself to you, our Rockville Centre readers, as your newest reporter.

I'm a recent graduate of Adelphi University where I received my B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Journalism. But I'm coming to the Herald as a much more experienced reporter than you might think.

After interning for most of my senior year at Newsday (quite a wonderful experience) I come to the Herald ready and willing to deliver the community news and information you're looking for and have come to expect — information you need to make informed decisions and can’t find anywhere else.

I've been through alot. I was thrown out on the L.I.E. to cover breaking news of a tanker truck crash on my second day as an intern. I've driven endless roads for fascinating stories — to East Hampton's beach where the 13-ton beached whale washed up — wearing only my pea coat with no umbrella. I stood in the cold, pouring rain for five hours with an empty stomach, but I made sure the public would know what scientists did to help the young whale.

I've written countless obituaries honoring some truly amazing people, and I've listened to Brentwood's residents cry for help in dealing with the senseless violence claiming their children's lives, during their march for peace.

And now I come to you as a dedicated reporter who is excited to work for Rockville Centre.

In the ever-changing world of journalism it is you, the readers and concerned members of the public, who are most important. There is never a story too small or too big, and every person counts.

I look forward to hearing from you at (516) 569-4000 ext. 282 or at
