A thunderous snowstorm

More than a foot of snow falls overnight

UPDATE: Residents were startled at the sudden flash of lightning and clap of thunder shortly before 8 p.m. on Tuesday when round two of the today's storm announced itself, bringing with it sleet and wind. Residents woke up to more than a foot of snow.

the National Weather Service reports an average of 13.3 inches of snow fell on Long Island.

Public schools in our area are closed. Nassau Community College announced a late start for 1 p.m.

Officials advise people to only travel in an emergency.

Kennedy airport was closed Thursday morning, but will reopen later.

Long Island Bus has suspended service. The Long Island Rail Road's service is still changing as of Thursday morning. visit www.mta.info for more information.
