A 'Twisted' Fundraiser in Point Lookout

Bikers for Babies hold motorcycle run

Posted

The Town Park parking lot at Point Lookout on Lido Boulevard filled with thousands of motorcycles last Sunday.

The event was the eighth annual Bikers for Babies Ride, a March of Dimes fund-raiser in the fight against premature birth, an organization started and chaired by Dee Snider, the front man of the metal band Twisted Sister, who is also its national spokesperson. The bikers kickstands were up at 11 a.m. to set out on the Loop Parkway to cruise 50 miles around the South Shore -— the Southern State, Robert Moses Causeway, Ocean Parkway, Meadowbrook Parkway — before returning to Point Lookout.

This year there were cameras shooting Snider and his family, who have signed up to do their own reality show “Growing Up Twisted,” to air later this year on A&E.

The reality show will center on Snider and his wife, Suzette, and their children Jesse, Shane, Cody and Cheyenne. The show is in production on Long Island, particularly in the Stony Brook area around the Snider’s home.

Both Cody and Cheyenne were prematurely born. “Fortunately, both of them had no ongoing health problems,” writes Snider on the March of Dimes website. “Many other families aren't as lucky. By working with the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies in their fight against premature birth and birth defects for the past decade, I have been able to help those who aren't as fortunate and raise awareness of these families and children's plight.”
