Valley Stream firefighters join forces with area fire crews to take down multiple fires

Posted

With fire emergencies burning across Valley Stream and surrounding neighborhoods, fire departments have dialed up their mutual aid. Valley Stream fire crews provided support to the Elmont Fire Department for a building caught ablaze on Linden Boulevard on June 6. The fire spread through the second and third floors of the building and was eventually extinguished after two hours. Valley Stream’s Engine 343 and Tower Ladder 345 were on the scene under the command of Chief of Department Patrick Scanlon.

Valley Stream fire crews also worked with the Elmont Fire Department to put out a house fire on Parkway Drive on June 10. After a more than hour-long effort, Assistant Chief Michael Colucci, along with Tower Ladder 345 and Engine 343, successfully extinguished the flames that were consuming the basement.

On June 12, just after 5 p.m., the Valley Stream Fire Department responded to a house fire on Lyncrest Street that displaced its residents. Heavy plumes of smoke were seen billowing out from the second floor of the house and threatened to structurally tear it down. The fire was burning the houses’ attic and knee walls, the space between the interior second floor walls and the pitch of a peak roof, noted fire officials. Engine 342 and Tower Ladder 345 were first on the scene and mutual aid was received from various surrounding departments. A firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. No further injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshals Office.
