Baldwin day celebrates summer fun

The annual Baldwin Day festivities were held Saturday at Baldwin Park. The event featured a picnic, a concert and a Chamber of Commerce-sponsored fireworks show, and more than 1,000 people attended.

This year’s Baldwin Day kicked off around 4 p.m. when a host of volunteers cooked up free hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza and furnished cold drinks to a hot and thirsty crowd. Free face-painting, pony rides and other amusements were also available, and entertainment was provided by Baldwin’s own New World Music Center. Local merchants donated prizes for a raffle and around 7:30 p.m. the Doobie Brothers cover band, Minute by Minute, played a concert sponsored by the Town of Hempstead.

As daylight faded approaching 9 p.m., residents and people who’d come from outside Baldwin to enjoy the festivities, settled in to watch the Chamber-sponsored fireworks show. It was, once again, a proud day to be from Baldwin.
