A Baldwin man facing manslaughter and other charges was ordered held on bond Tuesday after a shooting at a house that left one man dead, authorities said.

Nassau County Homicide Squad detectives arrested Nathan Barnwell, 46, of 940 Woodoak Drive in Baldwin at 7:38 p.m. Monday.

Det. Capt. John Azzata, commanding officer of the Homicide Squad, said Barnwell was arrested at 4 Hayden Court, in Coram. Azzata didn’t know why Barnwell, who lives at the Woodoak house, was at the Hayden Court address.

At 12:50 a.m. Saturday, First Precinct officers responded to reports of shots fired at the Woodoak Drive house in Baldwin, they said. They found Winfield Gillespie, 39, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., injured outside the home. Gillespie was taken by ambulance to South Nassau Communities Hospital, Oceanside, where he died at 5:25 a.m., Azzata said.

According to Azzata, the two men had been engaged in an “ongoing dispute” over their real estate and car sales businesses. “I believe the dispute was over cars,” Azzata said.

First District Court Judge James M. Darcy on Tuesday ordered Barnwell held on $600,000 bond or $300,000 cash bail at arraignment.

Barnwell was charged with first-degree manslaughter, two counts of possessing a loaded firearm, and tampering with physical evidence. He was to be transported to the Nassau County Correctional Center following arraignment in Hempstead.
