Bellmore business owner Hector Granados, 43, was awarded the Town of Hempstead Hispanic Heritage Award on Sept 19 during a celebration in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month.

“I was very surprised,” Grandos said, adding that he was humbled to be awarded alongside town residents like Byron Alvarado, of Inwood, the founder of a local soccer club, Frank Colon, of Rockville Centre, an active member of the town’s veterans’ organizations and outreach programs and Thea Lopez, of Elmont, the manager of the Nassau Kings Wheelchair Basketball Team.

Bellmorites might recognize Granados on walking into his business, the Bedford Avenue Deli, which he has owned for 14 years. Prior to running the eatery and catering business, Granados worked across the street at a similar establishment where he learned how to run a deli. When he was 29, Granados said, “the dream came true” and he began operating his own deli.

Granados currently lives in Freeport with his three kids Gabriel, 13, Bethany, 9, and Guillermo, 6. He is a board member of the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores and the Bellmore Lions Club.

Granados said that he is very grateful to be a contributing member of an accepting town like Bellmore. “I get along well with the people here,” he said. “I’m looking forward to continue doing what I can do to help people in the community.”
