Bellmore home destroyed in late-night fire

A Sunrise Avenue home was completely destroyed, and an occupant and firefighter suffered minor injuries in fire that broke out after midnight on Monday.

According to Vincent Scaduto, of the Bellmore Fire Department, the call came in at 12:43 a.m. Five departments, including Bellmore and Merrick, responded to the scene. One occupant of the home suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized, and a firefighter also was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, but was released shortly after, Scaduto said.

The home was completely destroyed, and it took firefighters approximately two hours to knock the fire down.

The cause is as yet undetermined, and the county fire marshal and arson squad are still investigating, according to Scaduto.
