A Bellmore man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on Saturday, March 10. New York State Police received a call at 10:30 p.m. about an erratic white pickup truck traveling westbound on the Southern State Parkway near Route 109.

The dispatched trooper found a white Ford-150 swerving in and out of the lanes numerous times. The officer pulled the vehicle over, and while speaking with the driver, Douglas Cress, 62, detected a strong odor of alcohol. State Police say that Cress failed sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of .27, three times the legal limit, according to his Breathalyzer test.

Cress was charged with DWI and traffic violations. He will be arraigned in Nassau County District Court later in the month.
