Bellmore-Merrick photographer continues to document horses

Posted

Bellmorite Lorraine Piskin first appeared on the art scene when her photographs of the famous white horses of the southern regions of France graced the walls of the Bellmore Memorial Library in 2009. The grandmother of five then returned to the Camargue region of France to complete more research and photographs of the horses.

Piskin spoke with ranch owners in the region to gain an in-depth knowledge of the animals, and the photographer came back to Bellmore with hundreds of images documenting the horses’ daily lives.

Twenty of Piskin’s best pieces were selected for an exhibit at the Plainview Library’s gallery, where they joined the original photos from the 2009 exhibit. Piskin said she hopes to compile her knowledge of the horses’ playfulness, behavior and grace into a documentary in the near future. The exhibit is now on display at the Plainview Library at 999 Old Country Road.
