The Bellmore-Merrick girls varsity bowling team won the Nassau County championships on Feb. 21. The team went undefeated in conference play and held the top average countywide heading into the championships.
“It was truly a team effort,” said teacher and coach Keri Cinelli. “‘Every pin counts’ was our motto headed into the counties, and each one definitely did with us being tied with Mineola after the six matches. We had to go into a roll off and the girls really turned it on.”
Senior Marissa Anselmo led the team with a 227 score and kept her fellow bowlers focused.
“I couldn’t be prouder of these girls,” Cinelli added. “They never quit even if we had a bad score. Through these hard times it was amazing to have the opportunity to play, [and] the coordinators for bowling did a great job making this possible.”
