Blum and Jaffe named top students

Cole Blum and Spencer Jaffe have been named Long Beach High School's valedictorian and salutatorian for the class of 2010.

Blum is a member of the National Honor Society and National Language Honor Society, and has been named an AP Scholar with Distinction. Active in the science research program, he has won numerous awards at regional, state and international science competitions. He represented LBHS at the News 12 Long Island Trivia Challenge, is a member of the swim team and has volunteered in Peru building irrigation canals and bathrooms. He will attend the University of Pennsylvania.

A leader in many school and community organizations, Jaffe has been an active volunteer for the American Red Cross, and he founded the Long Beach High School Red Cross Club in 2007. He is the Associate General Chair of the Model Congress, and has won multiple awards and commendations at regional meets. He traveled to Cairo to volunteer and study Arabic language and culture. He is also active in the science research program and plays French horn in the symphonic band, marching band and pit orchestra. He will attend Brown University.
