Board takes a good look at itself

District 13 board members got a special treat at the Jan. 26 meeting — themselves.
Sixth-grade students from Howell Road School wanted to express their gratitude for the new kiln in the school’s art room, which the board included funding for in the budget. So children from Maria Teh-Bradley’s class put the new kiln to good use and created clay sculptures of the board members’ faces.
The students used the picture of the Board of Education in the 2009-10 school calendar as inspiration for their sculptures. The creaters, under the direction of art teacher Karen Martorana, were Jade Rodriguez, Kiara Wilson, Eric Pujols, Rimsha Tahir, Nikkirose Calabrese, Randy Ramsaroop and David Olivo.
