Boy Scouts take part in Food Factor competition

Local Boy Scouts are competing as a team in the First Lego League’s Food Factor competition and met with Senator Charles Fuschillo (R-Merrick) to discuss their project.

Scouts Tim O’Leary, of East Meadow, Jack Miller, of Farmingdale, and Brian Harding and Kyle Kravit, of Merrick, are engaging in the competition designed to get children excited about science and technology through research, problem solving and engineering.

The four scouts must pick a type of food and identify problems that could impede freshness during its journey from the ground to the table. During their meeting with Fuschillo, who is Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, the boys shared problems that could arise while transporting food and Fuschillo discussed some of the steps taken in New York to ensure that food is handled and delivered safely.
