Two police cars were damaged and two officers were injured following a brief police chase in Valley Stream on Monday morning, and police are seeking the driver responsible.

Shortly after 4 a.m. on April 9, officers observed a gray BMW driving at a high rate of speed on Central Avenue, near the north end of the village. Police then saw the vehicle turn onto Fenwood Drive, strike two parked cars, and continue going. The driver then turned onto Salem Road, then Wells Road where he struck a marked police car.

Again, the driver kept going and continued on Arkansas Drive and Wellsboro Road in North Valley Stream, hitting another marked police car. He then got out of his car and fled through the backyards of homes. The suspect is described as a black male, about 20 years old, 180 pounds wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt.

One witness said he woke up to see a police sport utility vehicle, with its bumper lying in the road, being towed away that morning.

Two police officers sustained shoulder, back and knee injuries and were taken a local hospital to be treated. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
