Merrick’s Megan Vasquez became the 17th women’s basketball player in Yale University history to surpass the 1,000-point mark, in an 86-73 win over Cornell last Friday night. The Yale junior scored 16 of her 25 points in a dominating first half by Yale, which improved to 13-8 overall and 5-2 in the Ivy League, according to Jon Erickson Jr. of Yale Sports Publicity. Vasquez, who graduated from Calhoun High in 2009, is the only Colt to score 2,000 points and have her number retired.
